The European Union and the United States are urgently seeking to develop a code of conduct, in a bid to establish “guardrails” for generative AI. Meanwhile, the CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman, is on a barnstorming tour of national capitals, hoping to convince regulators around the world to rein in the very technology his company is developing. But while there may be some synergy between regulators and industry, the development of AI regulation is still likely to be contentious.
