She has been a journalist for 10 years, and began her career at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, subsequently doing stints at Deutsche Welle, the BBC and the Associated Press. She has also worked as a freelancer for Bloomberg, the New York Times, the Economist and more recently the Diplomat. She is a graduate of the University of Melbourne, where she received a degree in political economy and studied Japanese. She earned an MA in Japanese translation at Monash University in Melbourne and did graduate work at Keio University’s Graduate School of Economics in Japan.
