US states propose comprehensive privacy bills, with familiar divide over enforcement

As the US Congress once again begins debating federal privacy legislation — and preemption of state privacy laws — state lawmakers aren't waiting to see what happens.

This year, at least 20 states are considering comprehensive consumer privacy bills, with more than 40 bills introduced so far aimed at giving residents
