UK banks offered new government guarantees for Covid loans to companies, homebuyers

UK banks will get state backing for Covid loans offered to businesses and would-be homeowners, finance minister Rishi Sunak said in the country’s budget today.

The measures, in response to the pandemic-related economic downturn, extend a government guarantee on Covid loans to a new lending program for business borrowing and mortgages.
