U.S. Sugar’s bid for rival Imperial Sugar challenged by US DOJ

The US Department of Justice sued to block U.S. Sugar’s acquisition of rival Imperial Sugar, alleging the deal would leave the vast majority of refined sugar sales in the Southeastern United States in the pockets of only two companies, thus creating a “cozy duopoly,” according to the agency’s complaint.
