Subsidies are 'short-term boost' but not long-term solution, EU's Vestager says

Europe's economy may benefit from a temporary "boost" through loosened state aid rules, but competitiveness is not "built out of subsidies," Margrethe Vestager said.

The EU's competition chief is reviewing the bloc's subsidy rulebook as countries, including France and Germany, seek more leeway to finance their industries.
