Philippine privacy regulator, tech groups united against social-media name registration plan

The Philippine privacy regulator, online platforms and internet-freedom advocates are all opposing draft legislation that would require users to use their real names and phone numbers when creating social-media accounts.

The requirement is part of the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) Card Registration Act that was ratified by the legislature on Feb.
