Google, Facebook say withdrawal of Australian services inevitable under draft media code (update*)

Google would withdraw Google Search and Facebook would purge all news content from its Australian platform if draft laws to make both companies pay news publishers become law in their current form, the companies warned today.

In an Australian Senate hearing today, Facebook and Google executives laid out their “worst case scenarios”
