EU carbon tariff can avoid retaliation by sticking to WTO rules, official says

An EU carbon-pricing measure at the bloc’s borders shouldn’t prompt retaliatory measures by other countries if it’s in line with international trade rules, the European Commission’s top civil servant for climate said today.

“The world of trade is full of tensions. It’s never been as smooth as theoreticians of free trade tell us,”
