EU banks' M&A surge wins ECB chief's applause, but capital deviations raise concern

A record level of EU banking merger activity has received plaudits from the bloc’s most senior supervisor — but Andrea Enria also voiced concern that capital laws might start to cut adrift from global norms, meaning collapses such as that of Archegos Capital Management could destabilize the banking system in future.
