E. Leclerc deal sunk in first merger veto wielded by France's competition agency

E. Leclerc's bid to take over a hypermarket run by Géant Casino was blocked today, marking the first time that France's competition authority has formally prohibited a merger.
The agency said it "wanted to preserve competition to the benefit of the hypermarkets' customers and avoid price increases," Autorité de la Concurrence head
