Shipping fully drawn into Emissions Trading System by 2026 under EU proposal

Shipping companies will have to buy and use emissions allowances for their voyages to, from and within the EU from 2026 or face fines and denial of access to ports in the bloc, according to a European Commission proposal today that seeks to extend the existing Emissions Trading System to maritime transport.
