Merger of Fukui and Fukuho regional banks approved by Japanese regulator

A merger between Japan’s regional lenders Fukui Bank and Fukuho Bank was approved Wednesday by the antitrust regulator. It was the country's first major bank consolidation since the 2018 merger between Fukuoka Financial and Eighteenth Bank, which launched a major rethink of Japan's rural business mergers.
