Cruise, Waymo receive permission in California to charge for autonomous vehicles rides

General Motors’ Cruise and Alphabet’s Waymo today became the first self-driving companies to receive permission from a California regulator to charge passengers for rides in their autonomous vehicles with a safety driver present — in San Francisco and San Mateo.
