California children's privacy bill advances in state legislature

The proposed California Age-Appropriate Design Code Act, which requires tech companies to improve children’s online safety, passed its first legislative hurdle today.

The California Assembly Privacy and Consumer Protection Committee voted to move the bill forward after hearing tearful testimony from students and parents about cyberbullying and the risks of teen suicide.
