Silicon Valley loses its fight against Australia’s encryption law

In spite of a concerted lobbying campaign by tech companies including Amazon, Apple, Google, Facebook and Cisco, the Australian parliament has approved controversial encryption legislation. This means that law-enforcement and espionage agencies will be able to require companies to provide them with decrypted messages as part of criminal investigations. The tech companies say Canberra’s position will threatened the security of communications around the world.
