Cannabis company Curaleaf Holdings has received a second request for information from the US Department of Justice regarding its planned $875 million acquisition of GS Companies, also known as Grassroots, MLex has learned.
Curaleaf and Grassroots announced the deal on July 17 and filed US antitrust paperwork on Aug. 14. The merger would create the US's largest cannabis company in terms of revenue, the companies have said.
The companies are working to comply with the request, it is understood.
The move by the DOJ marks the latest in a string of at least seven second requests issued by the agency on pending cannabis mergers so far this year.
That includes another Curaleaf deal, the $940 million purchase of Select Brands, a West-Coast leader in THC-infused vaping oils, disclosed in May. The company has said it aims to comply with that request by the end of September.
