US Federal Reserve chief Jerome Powell said he doesn’t view the EU as a “foe” of the United States, providing a counterpoint to recent comments by President Trump and a more cooperative international perspective.
At a Senate Banking Committee hearing Tuesday, Democratic Senator Jack Reed asked the Fed chairman if he felt the European Union was a “foe” of the US. “No, I do not,” Powell responded succinctly.
The brief exchange captured the different outlooks of Powell, a Republican, and the president who appointed him chairman.
